Dear Friends,

Six Apart just announced the first version of movable type 5th series, version 5.01.

After quite some time of ongoing development and testing, the wonderful Six Apart crew released this final version both for as commercial license (professional version) and open source license.

The publishing platform is available right away for download in 6 languages namely: English, Japanese, German, Spanish, Dutch and French.

Those that got to know me may have expected that I'm going to come up with an online demo for this release.

Well, I couldn't resist the temptation of offering to absolutely anybody from around this small world an absolutely no cost movable type demo version just here!

You don't have to worry about a hosting space, about how to install movable type or if your hosting service supports all the movable type system requirements or not.

Just make yourself comfortable on your sofa and check out movable type v5.x. It's just one click away!

As I've mentioned above, Six Apart made available a professional version and an open source version.

Let me give you the Movable Type Admin URL for both:

1) Movable Type v5.01 Professional Version

http://www.movabletypedemo.org/v5x/pro/cgi-bin/mt/mt.cgi

2) Movable Type v5.01 Open Source Version

http://www.movabletypedemo.org/v5x/os/cgi-bin/mt/mt.cgi

You could login to any of these version using a very simple username and password combination.

- username: "demo";
- password: "demo".

Before letting you go, I just feel like making you a few recommendations.

1) don't change the username and password

Please don't change the "demo" username and password so that any users could evaluate this movable type version.

2) let's keep things tidy

When you create a Web site, make sure you create it based on the path ".../movabletypedemo/v5x/sites/..." so that we keep everything tidy.

I hope you would enjoy movable type v5.x which starts today with movable type v5.01.

Six Apart, thank you for making this possible!

Yours always,
Mihai Bocsaru

I hope that the online community has appreciated the movable type demo project I’ve launched 2 years ago, on the very first day the first version of movable type 4.x has been launched.

Since then I’ve invested over one hundred hours to always update the version to the latest one available. I didn’t count the exact time spent on this initiative, but I’m sure it passed 100 hours.

Because a friend of mine from FastServers.Net moved to Cpanel, the free hosting package I had with FastServers for supporting this initiative came to an end.

For about 2 months we are hosted with Pair Networks and I’m renting a special account only for this scope. This means having me spent some money every month to keep this alive.

At this moment I have to stop offering full access to this demo site because it got so big and because people are not using it only for seeing the new platform, but also for deploying work and stuff.

What I am going to do is:

1) let you still login with demo/demo, but have only author and commenter privilages, so no more access to the templates or other settings;

2) update all the current users to author and commenter (see above);

3) on request offer you full access to the system (including templates and settings) in exchange for a small donation which to allow me support this initiative on an ongoing basis.

One of the things I love at Six Apart is that these guys are always working (pretty the same as I do).

I recall from Le Web 3, 4th edition in Paris, France, way back in December 1997 that Chris Alden (Six Apart CEO) and the other board members said to me:

'We are wondering if you even get some time to sleep! You're doing so many wonderful things.'

At that time we were talking about this 'movable type demo project' that I've initiated on June 2007.

Did Six Apart adopt my working fashion? It looks like... :)

They are always surprising me with launching new movable type versions and more and more features. I have no reasons to regret that I've chosen movable type and to advocate for it vs. wordpress.

Movable Type Motion Available For Demo

Last night they've launched movable type v4.25 which contains the motion extra feature!

Since motion is an excellent social feature, I cannot wait to reveal it to you here.

This being said, I'm delighted to invite you to have a look at movable type v4.25, both professional and open source versions.

Let me add one more thing! If you find this demo project helpful, please support it by giving my any movable type work or by making a paypal donation to info[at]pro-it-service[dot]com.

To login to movable type live demo use the following details:

- username: demo
- password: demo

This morning Natalie Podrazik, Manager @ Movable Type Support announced movable type v4.24 on the movable type professional list (pronet).

This release was launched mainly to address a security issue that relates to the exposure of user profile data. This bug impacts the Community Pack code directly.

Together with this security issue fix, the new movable type version contains an improved Password Recovery mechanism. Now only an email address is required for MT to trigger the recovery email, making the Password Hint obsolete.

I've just upgraded our two movable type demo installations so that you could enjoy the new release.

Do you need assistance to have your movable type installation upgraded? Get in touch!

Guys, we were in holiday until now and during this time, more specifically on December the 3rd, Six Apart announced Movable Type v4.23

This release is very important as it addresses a good number of bugs and security issues!

You are very welcome to start checking it out right away!

I've also noticed that the movable type commercial installation had some issues. Basically, after providing the username and password movable type was displaying an Error 500 message...

On the back end it was generating a dump core file measuring about 30 megabytes for each and every login attempts! Don't ask me how many dumps were in...

The problem has been fixed and you can now browse both the commercial and open source version of the latest released movable type v4.23. Enjoy!

Byrne Resse, Movable Type Product Manager @ Six Apart announced movable type v4.21 which is basically v4.2 with a two major bug fixes, one regarding custom fields data, and the other regarding the archive mappings.

In an effort to make your life easier if you want to upgrade a movable type installation from v4.2 to v4.21 I've created a patch which you could unzip and upload to your server

The patch is available both for Movable Type Professional and Movable Type Open Source and you could download it right here:

1) Movable Type Professional v4.21 (upgrade from v4.2)

http://www.movabletype4.org/downloads/MT-4.21-en-upgrad-from-MT-4.2-en.zip

2) Movable Type Open Source v4.21 (upgrade from v4.2)

http://www.movabletype4.org/downloads/MTOS-4.21-en-upgrade-from-MTOS-4.2-en.zip

If you find this patch useful and want to make a donation, you could do so via paypal to info@pro-it-service.com

Also, if you need any movable type consultancy service, including installations, upgrades, recoveries or anything else, just get in touch via email or using the contact form above

Happy blogging!

Kind Regards,
Mihai Bocsaru

Just a few hours ago Six Apart announced Movable Type v4.2, a version the entire movable type community was waiting for.

There are so many features that Movable Type v4.2 bring in, but most of all this is the fastest and most secure release of Movable Type so far.

Go and read more about it at:

Movable Type 4.2 is here!

If you need somebody to install Movable Type for you or to upgrade your already existing Movable Type version, just click the 'Contact' button above!

Are you curious to see Movable Type v4.2 in action?

Thousand thanks to the entire crew @ Six Apart that made this product possible!

You won't believe what a great surprise Six Apart prepared for us all :)

Have you even imagined a very simple, fully intuitive and quick way to find a new interface design for your Movable Type Web site, to choose the exact layout you like (with whatever number of columns and their positioning in page) and to even be able to update the interface design style live before saying to youself: "Yeah! This is what I want to apply to my Web site!".

Just check out this post:
Movable Type Design Assistant: Styles Live Customization is Here

The entire blogging community, movable type based or not, have a good reason to go get some champaign and celebrate the launch of Movable Type v4.1.

This is indeed an occasion you should not miss, since both the Commercial and Open Source versions have been launched! Yes, I didn't make any spell mistakes. Movable Type is also available as an Open Source publishing platform.

I won't take much of your time now as I need to rush and get by own champaign bottle here in London, where I'm currently with business for about one week (reachable on 07876.081.936). The business is obviously Movable Type based :)

Before going though I would like to offer you a present - as always - and to let you access an absolutely free demo of both the commercial and open source versions of movable type 4.1.

Thousand thanks to the entire crew @ Six Apart that made this product possible!
